Dacia Officially Acknowledge Rust Issues With Duster

16th June 2014 by Nick 12 Comments

Is your Duster showing signs of rust?

Is your Duster showing signs of rust?

If you’ve been following our busy forums lately, you’ll notice there are a number of members who are experiencing rust issues with their Dacia Dusters.

Some of these members are having theirs rectified under their warranty, some of them have reportedly been receiving full refunds. We’ve been hearing rumours for a while now that Dacia are going to go “official” on the rust issue, and we’re pleased to report that they have officially acknowledged that there is a problem.

They have released a statement today:

A limited number of Dacia Duster have been identified to have concerns with the paintwork protection. The potentially affected vehicles are exclusively amongst right-hand-drive Duster.
Customers in the population of potentially affected vehicles will be contacted to arrange an inspection and repair, if required. Any repair required will be covered under the Dacia warranty at no cost to the customer and a courtesy car will be provided free of charge.
Dacia Duster owners may also contact their local Dacia dealer or call Dacia Customer Relations on 0151 212 1242 for any related enquiries.

As part of the Renault Group, Dacia maintains a high standard of product quality and is committed to resolving product concerns quickly and ensuring customer satisfaction.

I’m one of those owners!! I haven’t been contacted by the dealer yet but after washing my shiny new car with only 453 miles on the clock I’ve noticed rust on the front wing.

I called the dealer myself and they knew about the recall just didn’t call me about it!!!! They will now investigate and repair “IF NEEDED”

    Will post an update soon.

    Wonder what the ‘population’ is?

I would think that the population of potentially affected cars is substantial; judging by the areas as to where lack of paint protection has been identified by owners that has resulted in rust occurring.

Hi tsartg, just wondering if you’d had any luck with the investigation and repair of your car? Did you find any other areas of rust on your car.

Surely this acknowledgement must also apply to other Dacia models.
I have Sandero and I had to take twice to the dealer for dealing with rust issues.
Because of the rust issue are Dacia are going to extend the Daocia bodywork warrantly.
Otherwise what happens to any rust issies that appear after the warranty period.

To me it appears Dacia’s approach is that we deal with it as they occur, rather than a preventive one.

    Hi OOB,
I know with the Duster issue they have no intention of extending any warranty. They have made that clear in several of my communications so I can’t believe they’ll extend it for any of the other models.

Where did the car come from, which dealer?
Did you try the 0151 number?

I went to test drive a Duster on Thursday 21st August 2014.
I was told by the salesman that they had been withdrawn from sale the previous day because of paint/rust issue, that production was halted in India forthwith and swapping to the Romanian factory, as no problems with paint/rusting there.
Odd, seeing same factory and chassis as Qashqai – must be to do with cost.
Bringing forward the 2016 facelift into production at the end of September for delivery end December 2014 for UK market – upshot is that Romania is going to produce RH drive Dusters and give the European choice of colours, instead of the three India colours – white, grey and blue. OK, five if you count two shades of grey and two shades of blue!

Dusters have disappeared from the forecourt at local Dacia dealers.
    Former potential Duster owner.

Not a Qashqai chassis, I believe it is built on the Nissan Juke B0 (that’s B zero) floor plan.

My Laureate goes in for it’s first service end of September, with less than 6K on the clock. It’s been back to the dealers for the cat changing & the handbrake taking up. The cat still vibrates at certain revs/speed, the handbrake still needs to be yanked on hard to hold the car & there’s also a whistle when pulling away & at other times (it isn’t the turbo) These items I’ve asked to be sorted at the service. They tried to charge me £12+ for a courtesy car, but I wasn’t having that & told them so. A word with the service manager sorted it. The rust issue will be brought up, although I haven’t seen any, yet! Over all, I’m happy with the car, but the storage is very sparse compared to my Berlingo which I thought I’d never part with.

collected brand new Dacia Duster Appril 2013 ,went in for first service April 16 2o14 .found a leaking pipe in engine so kept it at garage to await replacement part.Six weeks later called in to see why it was taking so long ,found it eventually standing on its own sprouting RUST patches all over ! Promissed it would be made safe to drive while they tried to find out what was causing the problem ! I said I was unhappy to be driving round in a rust bucket & that any other epensive purchase you made that was faulty would be replaced with anew perfect item or a full refund of purchase price ,,This is what should be happening in this case as the only honourable solution <Equus .
