Rubbish review, but as I always suspected with Jake Humphreys, though as a new dad at least he's looking at cars from a better perspective than the usual "Can it go really really fast?" types. He's found his niche with sports presenting which he seems very good at. Car review? Nope.

"I’ve not seen many on the roads over here yet, but there is something about the Duster that I guarantee will catch people’s attention – the price tag! With prices starting at £9,495, what you get here is a genuinely cheep option – a family crossover for less than a Smartcar"

A genuinely cheep!!! option. What is he paying for it with, sparrows?

Turns out he's driving a completely different car: "Loud… The Darcia has a noisy engine"

Then the absolutely bonkers logic: Only the basic version is worth buying because above basic spec you'd be better getting a second hand car (with the risk that it's been driven half decently, never thrashed, never run low on oil or water etc etc) then he says how nice it was to be able to use the usb port!! The basic hasn't got one you div!

Then he bemoans the low NCAP rating then goes on to say that Dacia have sorted that bit out so it isn't a concern anymore, but to check it anyway. Eh?

"I congratulate any company trying to make family driving more affordable, and Dacia is doing it successfully at the moment, but don’t buy anything other than the basic model because above that price point you would be better buying a higher quality motor second-hand. (Which one particularly?)

That means don’t expect loads of toys. We’ve got electric mirrors, automatic door locking and a USB stick (oh I must not have picked mine up, I have a USB PORT on mine. Did anyone else get a stick?), even a radio in this higher spec model we’re testing. (So he isn't even driving the car he's suggesting folk buy! It has a petrol engine you dodo! so commenting on the noisy engine is irrelevant) My tip? Simply ignore the option list and save your money."

Stick to the day job Jake.

I never understand reviews that suggest you should buy a good second hand car, it should be like for like

Dacia Duster, Nissan Qashqai & Mazada CX-5 SUV shoot out, the Duster has a good review and comes second, not bad for a car less than half the price of the others   ;)

This one purely for the English http://www.phoenix-a...ess-4x2-review/

That's funny! What's the link to Autocar pages all about? If you're going to read that you can ignore that waffle and that's too funny to miss hehe!

NEW car for the price of a secondhand one is always a tempting prospect and when it's as smartly styled and capable as Dacia's Duster, the concept becomes particularly appealing. Undercutting rival models in the crossover and small SUV 4x4 segments by an enormous amount, this Romanian budget brand uses proven Renault engineering to create a very likeable product that could prove ideal as back-up family transport.
