Our fantastic Silver Duster was delivered to our door from Scotland as an Ex Demo on Friday 16th August 2013.

We had been looking for an Ex Demo for quite a while and could not get a 4WD one in the South of England for love nor money so expanded our search North of the border and came up trumps with Evan Halshaw of Edinburgh and the salesman Mathew was very helpful and managed everything over the phone including taking our trusty Ford Mondeo in PX.

And the Duster is cracking and growing on us more and more every day.

On Thursday 22nd August 2013 Bettie the Duster will be visiting the Dacia/Renault dealer in Winchester to have an lump under the bumper that is fouling the boot lid sorted under warranty. Once that's done I will order a bumper protector.

Update on the warranty issue below. My wife dropped the car off at Martins of Winchester (Renault/Dacia) and shortly after arriving the technician had a quick look and felt that the issue might not be covered by the warranty as the reversing sensors fitted by Evans Halshaw were not genuine Dacia items and they suspected that it was these that were causing the problem.

My wife phoned me and I was not happy about the news but agreed to pay for the examination. Well what they discovered I can only describe as a complete mess.

Evans Halshaw in Edinburgh had fitted non Dacia sensor but for some reason only known to them they decided to hack dirty great big holes out of the bumper brackets and fed the cables through them but there would have been no need and was clearly a bad mistake and was the cause for the bump on the top of the bumper and the reason why I could not fit the bumper protector.

The wiring was also horrendous and my biggest concern. They had not used any connectors or soldered the cables and just used a bit of insulation tape instead of heat shrink, they were also left rubbing against the metal edge of the conduit hole.

After a couple of phone calls between the two different dealers and send the link of the video that Martins had done to Evans Halshaw which really did help to stop any arguments for them. The Manager at Evans Halshaw agreed that it was well below the standard that they would expect from their workshop and agreed to order the parts and send them to Martins who will carry out the rectification work.

Hats off to Allan at Evans Halshaw who gave his service department a rocket where it hurts and my thanks go to him for dealing with the issue swiftly.

My biggest thanks go to Martins of Winchester who professionally found the problem and came up with a reasonable solution as well as reducing any initial cost to me even though I would recover that from Evans Halshaw and also liaised with the Dealer in Scotland to get a speedy solution.

We have the Duster back again but she will have to go back in again in the next couple of weeks to be rectified once all the parts arrive.

If you have non standard reversing sensors fitted then you might be in the same situation as me. Apparently as dealers are struggling to get sensors from Renault and Dacia they are using their own.

You can tell the difference as the genuine sensors are a matt black and non genuine tend to be gloss black.
