2015 Stepway Dci intermittent brake problem

Hi everyone
I have an intermittent fault on my brakes. Every now and again when I apply the brake pedal it depresses more than normal, (It is not going to the floor),then on pressing again it returns to normal. There are no warning lights on dash board. when I put it in for the MOT (which it passed), the mechanic ran a diagnostic, which showed nothing wrong. I have been using this garage for the last 20 years and the car has been serviced by him since new.
He is quite stumped as what it could be and doesn't want to start changing parts unnecessarily.
Does anyone know if this is a known problem with the sandero,

I have read the thread on the forum from a while ago (sorry site won't let me post link), entitled "Brake pedal intermittently soft/sinks"
but as I said above it doesn't go to the floor. If anyone has a clue to what this could be, I would appreciate a reply

When did u bleed the brakes & change the fluid? There is a tiny leak or air in the system. Nothing will show up in a diagnostic!

Remember if the problem is proximal to the ABS unit, the bleeding has to be done using the service function of a suitable scanner.

Oh goodness....this is the 3rd time of replying 🙄 internet is seriously bad in Cumbria.
Thank you dralexandertom, car booked in early October for service, so I will pass on your comments. I have travelled up to Cumbria today...170 miles, motorway, rural and city and it happened once !!!

Have you changed the brake fluid ?, if so bleed the brakes with the engine running, this makes the ABS work.
