Mileage is why I got a diesel, over the first 7076 km it has averaged 18.74kl per liter that's around 52.7 mpg.
I have had as high as 20.2kl per liter a couple of times.
Mixed driving town, country roads and motorway.
But please remember that I am in Cyprus

Exactly the same reason I bought a Sandero dCi. My mileage is better than yours (smaller & lighter car) but for MPG that was the way to go in 2013 and still is.

E10 has been around as the default/standard for quite a while. I would expect all new cars to be tuned for it.
