Aircon Question

Hello. I bought a Sandero Stepway 2016 1.5 dci manual for my wife last March and discovered in June that the aircon did not work. There was no gas in the system so paid to have it refilled and was told it would not work because the condenser fan was not working. I have looked for information for three weeks but failed to get basic questions answered. Can I please ask if if the condenser fan is used for engine cooling, as it never turns on. Is the condenser radiator the only coolant radiator as I do not see another under the bonnet. The car has never overheated. The condenser fan has no voltage present when the aircon is switched on but all fuses and relays appear ok. An actual wiring diagram has been impossible to find but did find the fuses eventually.

Thank you.

On a hot day, I may start the car and leave it idling on the driveway for 5 approx minutes, with the air-con switched on the main cooling fan sometimes kicks in if needed, not because the engine is up to full temperature but it is called on to start by the air-con. The fan draws air when needed thro' the condenser and the radiator for engine cooling. I assume then that when you press the air-con button you do not hear a click, the engine revs drop slightly and the air-con kicks in, so is the air-con still gas up, I take it that the air-con pressure switch is OK, I assume the blower fan runs OK on all speeds as that also enables the air-con to run.

Thank you for the information. When you refer to the main cooling fan, does this mean there are two cooling fans as I only have one. I have an unused two pin fan connector (yellow) and cannot find anywhere to connect it to. I will confirm the points you have outlined tomorrow after work.

I did the checks and can confirm the following.

The interior fan blower works 1 to 4. When the aircon is switched on I can hear a pop and hissing from the compressor and can confirm the compressor relay is working. There is no drop in engine rpm and the condenser fan does not rotate and there is no voltage present.

I confusing issue I have is that the eircon engineer who refilled the gas told me not to run the aircon for more than 20 seconds with the condenser fan not working or serious (dangerous) situation would happen. This I cannot understand as I would assume the car has safety features to prevent this from happening, ie, the high pressure switch.

I think only the cars with climate control have the second fan. No UK cars and probably Eire cars have climate control. I think you are going down a blind alley with the fan. A fan only improves the performance. The compressor turns the gas to a warm liquid if that liquid is cooled it will work better but is not essential. Think fridges they do not have forced cooling.

I think you should take it to a different air con specialist.

The attached is for information only and comes from the Logan 2012 circuit diagrams, there are a number of variations due to vehicle spec, it also seems to cross match within reason with the German duster circuits on this forum.

Totally agree with Daedulus, engine running, blower on speed 1, 2, 3 or 4, push the air-con button, wait for the click as the clutch engages, engine revs drop slightly, air-con is now running. As previous the engine cooling fan doe's kick in on our Duster if it is stationary with the air-con running prior to the engine reaching full running temperature. Try another air-con expert.

Thank you for the attached file. With the information received from both of you, I now have enough information to move forward and will let you know when I have it resolved, cause and solution. Really appreciate both of you taking time to assist me.
I have checked mine for you and can assure you that the fan always runs when you turn the air-con on and the is engine running even if it is not required because the engine is cold.

Roger, yep, shot myself in the foot there, one must always look as well as listen, I only listened, on our Stepway and the fan runs at low speed when the air-con switched on, same on our Duster, I assume then fan in each case are multi / variable speed, maybe I should not assume so often.

I have tried again, the Logan electrical circuits I have are not a lot of use, but looking at them and the German Duster circuits on this forum may give me / us inspiration, as before for info only. So I guess that the cooling fan is two speed.

321 AIR CONDITIONING FAN ASSEMBLY RESISTOR

336 FAN SPEED 2 RELAY

700 PERCOLATION FAN LOW SPEED RELAY

784 COMMAND RELAY BLOCK 2

983 DIESEL INJECTION COMPUTER SUPPLY RELAY

PERCOLATION means "trickle through", so on this the fan is driven by two relays, 336 and 700, one at full speed and one at low speed, at low speed the fan is powered via a resister 321. So we have a case of the injection computer controls the relays, the relay(s) in turn power up the fan, using power supplied via the fuses.

It may worth checking in the fuse box again to see if any of this is any use or remotely similar.

Can I please ask if anyone could confirm the issues shown in the attached picture. The glow plud relay is detached and I do not know where it fixes and the unused two pin connector is shown, it may be a spare plug but has no protective cover fitted and has spades exposed. Dissapointed that I missed so much when I purchased it.
