Hi all,

long story short, I have Duster with a mystifying problem. This same problem has been posted a couple of times in this forum, with no solution as of yet, so hoping someone can help here.
Alternator light flashes for a couple of seconds and emits 2 loud beeps. Only happens when idling, AND when the air-con & radio are on. Seems to occur when the weather is also very hot.
Got it from a dealer and the fault arose about 5 days later… sent it back in to them, they had it for 3 weeks, changed alternator twice and battery, sent the car to a specialist diagnostics place (they couldn't work out the problem) Sent the original alternator off for diagnostics ( it is fine). After all this they booked it into Dacia/Renault garage, they had it for 8 days and said could not replicate the fault at all… indeed when it was returned, the fault appeared to be gone. Until 3 weeks later… and it started again today.
I may be clutching at straws here but it always seems to occur when weather is very hot and when idling with air con & radio on.
Anyone got any ideas before I return the beloved Duster for a refund?

Have they plugged in a fault logger that is left in the car to record any events independently of the car's memory.
I suppose the specialist would have done that.

Thank you for the reply,
Yes, the fault has been replicated and logged by everyone (except Dacia/Renault apparently). But no one can work out why it is happening, nothing seems to be wrong with any component that would flag up the alternator light. Last resort was thinking it was a software issue, however Dacia said there is no new software for this car (2017 plate). I just dont understand, if the manufacturer themselves couldn't solve it, what chance is there? (Although the Dacia garage didnt inspire much confidence to be honest)

I was thinking a software fault. You would think they could wipe the operating system and reinstall, as it sounds as if the software is corrupted.

Years ago my mechanic brother was working on a car that had an alternator light on.
Replaced the alternator and still had the light on!. That's when he phoned me!

We checked the energising and control supply to the alternator after the engine had ticked over a couple of minutes.
Zero voltage coming from the ecu!
We turned everything on.
Zero voltage from the ecu.
The output from an alternator is controlled by energising its electro magnets..this give greater control and efficiency of manufacter. It is controlled by the ecu.

So we traced the supply wire back to a connector block, hidden and exposed to road salt the sheath had cracked and over time corrosion broke the wire.
Once repaired all worked perfectly.

Has anybody told you if 2 loud beeps is documented? If it is not I would suggest they should change the instrument panel which generates beeps and all other sounds and is an electronic display panel.

Thanks all for the suggestions, the last 2 days the light and beeping is occurring even more frequently than before. I have now noticed it does it with anything to do with the heating or cooling systems, including the window defrosters when radio is on too, also now whilst driving with the defroster on etc. Think I am just going to bite the bullet and get money back as this is ongoing for 3 months now :(

that is a great point ,a similar one to what I suggested to the garage, to check for any corroded connections etc. They said there was none!

Thanks for this, to be honest the Dacia garage were not great at all, they just kept passing the buck, saying it just needed a new battery, despite the battery and alternator having already been changed twice! So no, no one has been able to tell me if the beeps are documented, except for a few other people on this forum noting it!

Said it before sir.
Years ago there was mechanics. They were trained to think for themselves to find the fault.
Now we have ' technicians '. They are taught to not think for themselves!
