Has anyone had their Dacia 'tuned' with one of these tuning boxes?

Reputable supplier claims (on the 1.5 dci) an increase of 27bhp, 42 lb/ft torque and a 4-6mpg increase in economy.

it's plug and play and unplug when necessary. Work colleague has one in his Clio and removes it for servicing etc.

I have tried various tuning boxes over the years on a variety of diesels and they aren't all that they are hyped up to be. If you want one that works then you need to spend the money and avoid the cheap eBay ones, but if you want to spend the money then look at Bluefin from Superchips as this is a proper remap unit, plug the unit in update the map and you are done - at service time, plug in the unit revert to the original and its back to normal.

But, as pointed out you will need to declare it and chances are that it will invalidate your warranty.

You should always be wary of those tuning boxes as some of them don't do anything (normally the ebay specials). Where as other options such as the bluefin which Giffer2 mentioned above work really well so if you are going to do it then spend the money to get a recognized brand from a reputable shop. Also beware as in some cars (not sure if dacia's do) will show on the Diagnostics that they have been remapped.

If you are spending that money my advice would be to seriously consider a full remap using the Bluefin option rather than a box that is essentially tricking the ecu into delivering more fuel.

45bhp - that's quite a jump - I'm not surprised you noticed a difference!

It's the torque and mpg increases we'd be interested in more than power.

Not tried it on a car with an eco button (I had it on a 170bhp diesel, pushed it past 200 which was a fun drive!).

The car is listed so it must take that into account, maybe worth firing them thy question.

and it won't end there....next you'll be boosting turbo pressure, larger intercooler and silicone pipework

Careful with that chip, they claim to be able to boost the turbo via the ECU - the turbo on the 90bhp engine isn't connected to the ECU. Also the gearbox on the 90 bhp engine is already at the limit for reliability and torque load, possibly why the proposed sport version has the same power and drivetrain.

Or controversially buy a car with a bigger engine

don't forget things like brakes gearbox suspension tyres are all made to accommodate the power of the engine' so you will need to consider those as well

DavidH - Where do you get your information regarding the gearbox being already on the limit of reliability etc?
