I was washing my car this morning and noticed someone has obviously opened their door against the off side rear wheel arch. I normally take great care where I park and have no idea where this happened. It's so bloody annoying

The paint is not actually broken so hopefully the likes of Dent Devils will be able to sort it.

Yikes! :( :( That's had a fair old whack, bet the wind caught someones door when they opened it!

Have you noticed when you park miles from anyone, when you get back to the car someone has invariably parked right next to you despite 100s of spaces? There is one member of the forum I know who went to a DIY shed, couldn't find a space that was surrounded by loads of spaces so drove back home again :D

Yep it is bloody annoying. There are so many inconsiderate people out there its unreal. Ours was dented after we had only had it 2 days. Luckily it was a small dent and but the scratch was quite deep so took it to our SMART repair centre and they did it for £80 all in.

A couple of years ago I was sat in my Mondeo and a woman parked next to me and as she opened the door 'whack' she hit my car. She didn't even bat an eyelid and went to walk off.

I got out of the car and said excuse me could you come back. and she tried to claim it was old damage on my car even though she left half her paint on my car. She then said that if she had realised that I was in the car she wouldn't have just walked off. Oh right so its acceptable then if you're not in it!!!!

Some people are incredible  makes my blood boil

The problem is 99.9% of car parking spaces are not wide enough; cars have got wider and wider but not the car park spaces
I agree with you on that one. But people need to be more considerate, some folk just see a car as a tool but others take pride in keeping our cars tip top. There is times I wish I would be happy with an ok banger that was cosmetically a mess but mechanically sound and I wouldn't care if it got banged or scratched.............. But that's not gonna happen. Shiney for the win ;)

Ant we are not as bad as the French or the Italians, look at how they park their cars. They use their bumpers to touch park............. :D

One of the reasons I hate going shopping in Tesco is the stingy parking spaces, Asda are much more generous.

Sorry to say, but lifting a dent somewhere like that is not so easy. Good luck though! :)

I once offered the view that the key to dent-free parking was to find the most prestige car in the car-park and park next to that (two bonuses - they won't want to taint their paintwork by picking up some of yours and, 2ndly, they will know why you did that!) However, it doesn't always work (in reverse anyway) - why did that Range Rover driver decide to edge in beside me before they let infirm "mother" try and get out of the rear seat? Luckily I had only just got out myself and was on station to ensure "mother" made a dent-free exit!

I have a dent just below the drivers door handle that is obviously from someone opening their door into my car. I'm quite philisophical about dent though, they are part of the car's history and not worth getting annoyed about.

I wish I could be like that Chris. Is it because the car kinda suits it? Being an off-roader I suppose it could be seen to add "character"? If I dented the car I probably could live with it as it's my fault but when other people bash my car I get miffed. Maybe I'm more of a grump, Lou keeps telling me I am anyway ????

sometimes a sorry can go a long way but most people are happy to walk away and pretend it did not happen .

afraid i guess of it costing them money

Its a car, its not an ornament. The odd minor dent or scuff doesn't matter, Its more like a pair of jeans than a sharp suit.

It always worries me if I get a hire car though, the tiniest dent could cost £100 or so to repair, and comes off your insurance excess.

I did once hire a car from Enterprise and someone had opened their door onto it leaving a mark. I was quite impressed with their service when the guy came out with a cloth and some T-Cut and said there was no charge as he managed to buff it out, and then they paid for a taxi to take me home.
