Hi Team Dacia,

I will be upgrading my Duster with an alarm system. It already has an immobiliser as standard but I would like an alarm as well that uses the existing remote control 'plipper' for the central locking.

I know that Dacia use either the Cobra or the Meta systems and my local dealer has just quoted me (gulp) over £460 . I can get either the Cobra or Meta fitted for half that by a specialised alarm company.

Now my question is this, do any of you in Dacia land have first hand experience good or bad of either the Cobra or the dacia? Or do you know about another alarm system that is good that utilises the existing central locking remote?

You realise insurance companies and the police consider car alarms as the least effective security device of all? No-one responds to car alarms.

There are campaigns to ban car alarms in America, because ALL they do is cause noise pollution and annoy people. They don't prevent theft or damage to vehicles.

If a car alarm goes off its mostly failed to do what it was intended to do. The belief that there is a car alarm or a tracker is more likely to deter a theif, so some convincing "alarm" stickers will do just as well a job as an actual alarm.

No Mick Im still looking into it but will probably go for the Cobra system as I have been told the Meta system has a few issues. I dont know how true this is. I still want one though

Whilst I agree with some of your comments I think it depends somewhat on where you live. Where I live it is very quiet and I have very good neighbours and we all look out for each other.

I know that if my alarm goes off it wont be ignored. The car park in town might be different but as the old bill dont have a lot to do in my area I dont think it would be ignored. It would only be a nuisance if it was faulty and always going off and if its faulty I would get it fixed. Simplez
