He'd cleared it? As in cleared the ECU error log. Who is 'he' ?
It monitors real time and logs errors, if the error is classed as a non-critical fault you get amber, if it's a serious or more critical and may cause more damage or a safety problem then you get a red light.
If the problem is still there then the ECU will log it and generate a fault again. If it's gone then no error is logged. If you've looked with an OBD reader and there's no fault reported then there is no fault being detected.
I had a red warning, checked the ECU which said heater coil issue. Checked and cleaned connecters and connecter blocks. Cleared the ECU log, power on red light now out, started and same error logged.
So I popped in a new set of coils, took all of 30 minutes, cleared ECU, restart and all was good.
Two were good, one on the way out with a high resistance and one dead.
