Aside from confusion about Media Nav, Media Nav Evolution and the forthcoming Android-based unit, there is currently a 'Latest Map Guarantee' when you buy your vehicle.

In the first 90 days of ownership, you're allowed to update your maps to the latest version (V7.2 at present). What they don't say is that you're only allowed to do that once. So in my case I updated my maps upon purchase in November 18 and tried to do so again in February 19 before the map guarantee runs out. After a couple of weeks of following technical advice and sending files etc etc, the Renault people eventually said it was because I'd updated once already. The moral of this story? Schedule your one free update about 80 days from vehicle purchase (leaving 10 days to figure out the whole updating rigamarole!)

As most people have discovered (this is certainly not pointed out upon purchase) the map updating for medianav and media nav evolution is a serious rip-off. UK mapping package alone costs £58 per update when most stand-alone navs like Garmin and Tom Tom (and phone apps) offer free updates now. As a sailor I buy specialised nautical charts of UK for less than £30.

Not having the latest maps may not worry some people but in my work I have to turn up at new places in the UK every week and on time. I need reliable mapping. I've already been led up long-closed-off streets in London by Media Nav Evo. I love my Duster for all it's quirks, but having this lump on the dash demanding £58 every few months leaves a very sour taste.

I must admit I do reluctantly buy the updates, but only once a year, as a Christmas present to myself ! Usually I get emailed a voucher for 10% off prior to the release of the new maps, which softens the blow !

I don't see the point in having the device fitted in the car, with out of date mapping, no good to anybody !!
