Sorry for reviving an old post. There is only one way for water to get into the fuel tank - and that is through the fuel filler opening. If the rubber seals of the cap are in good condition, and when you close it it feels solid, no water will get in. And of course when it rains make sure you're under a cover when you fill up.

When you drain your filter do you actually see any water (easily seen as water and diesel don't mix)?
