Hi,

I pick up my 4x4 Duster on Monday. I'll be needing to fit a tow bar pretty quickly, post running in. I've seen a number of threads showing how easy it is, but can anyone recommend a tow bar with flange mounting rather than a swan neck ball?

Are there any that do not require the vallance to be cut?

Any that do , and are fantastically cheaper ( Yorkshire man ) ?

Witter do a bar , but its needs a small amount of cutting.

I'll be using a Renault wiring harness so the electrics aren't an issue.

Thanks.

Flange towbar from www.allcarpartsfast.co.uk, bumper cut required 80mm x 80mm. Parts are 7 pin dedicated electrics + 2 part towbar kit - fitted to access 4x4 no problems. I found it possible to fit the towbar without dropping the exhaust.

Prices plus VAT and shipping.

thanks. I visited the site but doesn't show me images. Is that normal for the site?

Yes that's normal - just order by searching for the part numbers. I found the fitting instructions for those part numbers before I ordered so I knew they were the right items...

7-pin electrics http://www.tech-accessoires.renault.com/download_doc/?document_id=3092

tow bar http://www.tech-accessoires.renault.com/download_doc/?document_id=3430

Note there are 2 sets of part numbers for the tow bar - both are available, I chose the 511 numbers listed in this forum as they were cheaper.

( If anyone knows the difference between the 511608361R + 511605399R and the 8201200259 + 8201200263 tow bars I would love to know, but given that the 511 parts came with the 8201 instructions I recon they are the same)

Please be aware that the Renault 241577864R - CABLAGE ATTELAGE is for the left hand drive model. As our dusters have a reversing light on one side and a fog light on the other this harness is the wrong way round.

Might be possible to reverse the harness then swap the left and right indicators in the socket, but cable lengths may make this difficult. :(

I am thinking of getting a Caravan, so that means getting a towbar.

I have parking sensors, do I need a detachable towbar? Would a fixed one interfere with them?

Is there a difference between the 4X4 and 4X2 fittings?

Am I right in thinking I'd be better off with 13 pin electrics, because if I get a caravan with 7-pin I can always use an adapter, but not the other way round?

Got a few quotes you may be interested in (supplied and fitted: D - Detachable, F=Fixed)

Witter (F): £278

Westfalia (D): £350

Thule (D): £290

Witter(D): £325

I can reply on a little of that, a fixed tow bar does not interfere with reversing sensors :)

I use a 13 pin to 7 adapter and it's fine. It was a pain to connect as the 13 pin socket faces downwards but a bit vaseline and getting the hang of it now and it works fine.

I want one for my Duster. Does anyone know a kit where you dont have to hack any plastic off?

Did you have to do any cutting or does the swan neck go around the plastic without cutting?
