I plugged the car into the caravan today to check the connections and after a struggle with the 13 pin plug I got it in and the lights and indicators worked fine but no charging circuit nor refrigerator connection. As I suspected Pins 9, 10 , 11 and 13 are not connected as there is no current to them! Phone the dealer again, sigh!

According to an article in The Caravan Club Magazine it's quite common for those pins not to be connected. They are connected in the socket so must be in the car.

Im having second thoughts now, my local tow bar specialist can fit a fixed swan neck and 13 pin electrics for £285 or a detachable swan neck for £385, roof bars for a Duster are £50.

Just checked on the AA website though a link someone posted about the AA and the new MOT test.

Apparently if a 13 pin plug has any non working pins, then it is an MOT fail!!!

I am going to have to check mine (when I get it, the tired old caveat  ) as I most definitely do not want a row with the dealers 3 years down the line when I finally have to get an MOT, if the socket wasn't working in the first place.

The advert suggests that the detachable Witter tow bar is dedicated for the Duster but it will be still worth checking, there is a short video on the link which explains how it works. It appeals to me as I don't wont to keep knocking my shins or putting dirt on my pants. It looks like the aperture for the detachable tow bar will sit underneath the car. Ive had a detachable witter on my Jimny ( from this same firm)and they are a good bit of kit. It may be too late for me to cancel the touring kit as I ordered it in early February with an estimated delivery date of late April,

Hi Duster. The tow bar are fitted in this country and due to the delays it might be possible to cancel. I personally do not like the removable type, they ether rattle which may be a failure under the new mot or seize up and cannot be removed. I under stand it will only be the 13pin plugs that will be in the new test. Use twin with a adapter up to 13pin if required ???. Des

Thanks for the advise Des, Ive managed to cancel the touring pack without any issues, :) hopefully I will get the car released quicker and then get a detachable tow bar fitted.

I ordered the touring pack mainly to mount a bike carrier on, bought bike carrier today, plugged it in, all works on one side, only lights work on the other, no indicator or fogs, bulbs OK, no supply to socket using MM, so off to the dealer then to get it sorted!

Thought you might be interested to know, got bored waiting for the car to go back, so traced the cables into the boot and the drivers side rear wheel arch, the cabling goes to a multi connector in each wheel arch. Disconnected and reconnected the plug and now indicators work. Will however get them to check pins 9-13 which I don't use.

Interesting as apparently there is an internal dacia email about the tow bar electrics you mentioned, Simon.

Have insisted they check it before I take it tomorrow. Thanks for highlighting the issue

Phoning the dealer again today about this, seem to be getting nowhere! Won't be long now, when this awful weather warms up, before I want to tow the caravan and I would like it sorted!

Perhaps I should phone a tow bar fitter that I've used before and charge it to Dacia!

I'm in the same boat as you topfall, I have got caravan holidays booked up until October and I do not have the luxury of going back to the dealership if it is faulty. I cancelled my touring pack as soon as the comments were suggesting that was issues with the electrics. I will go to a tow bar specialist whenever my duster turns up.

I'm anticipating delivery next week and have already alerted my dealer to this problem. Dealer said he would check it out on Duster's arrival, but I'm compiling a list of 'snagging issues' (alerted across the Forum) to email to the dealer

At last after six weeks, I threatened the dealer in writing that I would call in a auto electrical specialist and bill them for the work to put my electrics right they are having the car in on Thursday next week and I will get a courtesy car which previously they said they couldn't supply.

This is the wire passing through the cars bulkhead to the rear and passing round the bonnet catch!

This is the grommet not fitted in the hole where the loom passes through to the towbar!

good thing you found that now.. the pic in 2-5 years without the grommet in place would have been a bit more scary.. and probebly hard to get warranty work on.

Treated myself to a Witter detachable towbar from PF Jones and I will be purchasing the 7 pin electrics kit from Dacia as it is plug n play rather using a generic electrics kit which involves splicing into existing wiring loom.
Towbar arrived today looks like a nice bit of kit and fitting instructions look straight forward to follow.
Will take some photos of the process and post on the forum for info, not sure it will be at IWC's spare wheel kit fitting standards but I will try.

Hi , I have a tow bar on my Access 1.6 Petrol 4x4 but have not used it yet as I only got my Duster last week want to get a few mile on the clock first. Best to run it in first before starting towing a Trailer.. :) Hopefully the Duster will tow all right time will tell.
