Got mine permanently on and set to 18C in the summer and 21C for the rest of the year.

 

My Logan 2 has a manual switch for aircon, and I've never used it. I'm a "crack the window open a touch and use recirc at all times" type of person. During my military career, there was a Standing Order not to use the aircon in any vehicle unless authorised by a senior officer. That was back when aircon was a fuel-chugger. It was the same with the Civil Service, buy a vehicle with a facility, but told not to avail yourself of it. But as the guy in video says, it only uses a lot of fuel during hot weather.

 

When I was looking for a cheap car the two criteria were aircon and cruise. The Stepway II I was offered had both so I bought it. The aircon is on all the time hot or cold, and as @MZ FANATIC says, it clears up misted windows a treat, especially with recycling on.

We have never used it in any of our cars, the climate outside awaits you at some point, might as well be prepared for it.. besides I always drive with a window cracked open. I remain disappointed that Dacia Dusters don't have the option of a tilt and slide sunroof.

When I bought a Laguna many moons ago in France I got the dealer to fit one. Is that not possible nowadays?

 

I spec'd my Ford Puma in 1997 to have aircon and had it on every car since. It's never been turned off (aside from shutting down below four degrees or after a service).

That said, the Zoe and Jogger do turn it off automatically when not required.

 

The air conditioning is switched on (indicator light illuminated) or off (indicator light extinguished) using button 2. Activation is not possible if control 3 (fan speed)is set to 0. The air conditioning system is used for: – lower the temperature inside the passenger compartment; – eliminate condensation more quickly. The air conditioning does not operate when the exterior temperature is low.

 

If you don't use it for a couple of years, chances are it will never work at all. Mine's on all the time and the effect on fuel consumption is negligible nowadays.
