I’ve had a trawl through various media platforms and I can find no evidence of any recent cyber attacks on Renault UK.

There was a cyber attack on JLR & they are slowly restarting operations.

 

Dear ########, We are very sorry to inform you about a cyber-attack on one of our third-party providers, leading to some Renault Group UK customers’ personal data being taken from one of their systems. The third-party provider established that your data was included, which means the attackers have access to some or all of the following information:

• First name & surname • Gender • Phone number • Email address • Postal address • Vehicle Identification Number • Vehicle registration number

We do not hold any financial details for you, so no bank details formed part of the cyber-attack.

The third-party has confirmed that this was an isolated incident, which has now been contained and removed. We are working closely with them to ensure that all appropriate actions are being taken. We have notified all relevant authorities. It is important to note that the data was taken from a third-party provider and that none of our own systems have been compromised.

Be cautious of any unsolicited requests for personal information, especially requests made by email or phone. You should never share your passwords online or on the phone – Renault Group UK will never ask you for this information.

All Renault Group customers that are affected are being contacted, it's mandatory under GDPR rules.
Can't understand why people think biometric identification cards with all of our personal data stored on them are such a great idea.. 🫣

 

I guess Spanish GDPR is not the same as I haven't had anything in regarding the breach and our records.
The next big thing will be someone in a balaclava coming round your gaff, running round your garden with a massive wire aerial; not to hijack your car fob signal, but your phone's bluetooth to nick your digital ID for re-programming!!
He's selling the idea all wrong.....so it appears that 65m people+ have to make a generally unwanted change to manage approx 1.5m 'wrong-uns'. Now if you could replace driving licence, passport and make travel a lot swifter for people as a result, that would get my 'vote' (having queued at Malaga for 40 mins last night, just to get an exit stamp). Then again, I went and got a UK Citizencard when they released that pearl a few years ago and that's just gathering dust!

Is there any action worth taking?

 

Not a lot an individual can do as they are going after companies to get customer data.
I suspect the likes of M&S and JLR have new senior IT management now, although the blame most probably lies with their bean counters not authorising the necessary expenditure.

I got the letter overnight.

Many years ago a colleague of mine always filled out name and address info using two extra initials which he changed for every company and kept a record. Claimed he'd know from the spam coming in which company had sold his info.

Yes, I got their email this morning. I've changed my password within the app, easy. Thankfully, I have no financial details there (yet?).

Got my email in the early hours of this morning. Strange thing is I hadn't been on the site for months as at yesterday evening, decided to check for any information on there, but I had forgotten my pass word, so I reset it. Up you scammers(!)

 

They (DACIA) haven't said who the third party is, that is something I would like to know. No mention of passwords being stolen though so that is good news. A sorry is not good enough, how are they going to make it right with their customer? What mischief can be done with these details?
