Official Recall for Driveshafts Replacement ?!?!

Just been on the phone to my dealer regarding its second service booked in for the end of this month - to tell them the steering wheel airbag rattle is back again and they'll have to fix it again, plus heater panel backlight needs replaced also.

Got a shock when he told me their system was flagging up a Dacia recall work item that was to replace both driveshafts and that since this was a big job they'd need my car in for two days.

I've never heard anything about an official Dacia recall for driveshaft replacement - anyone else?

I called Dacia direct after that call and am currently awaiting someone to get back to me to explain.

Still waiting on the call back from Dacia to confirm or deny this and explain why my dealer is claiming this recall work is to be done.

Mind you, almost a year on since being promised the "paintwork rectification" work I'm also still waiting for an appointment that will actually be kept by one of their bodyshops.

I'll chase Dacia again today on this weird recall.

Just off the phone with Dacia, who have now confirmed it's not an official "recall" - its a "Product enhancement" (whatever that means!).

They say no need to inform customers but when next in official dealer for service, the dealer system will flag up this work to be done - and customer will only find out then.

They cant explain further what it is and why and what "product enhancement" means, but when asked they confirmed it was not safety related but if I refused to have it done it would affect any future warranty claim on that part.

Given the availability of Dacia parts as we all know!, I will be making sure my dealer has the parts in his garage on the day I drop off the car, or will not be dropping it off!

Sounds like they have an issue with the part but not one that is serious enough to warrant official notification to the DVSA. Still, good to know that they recognise it and are voluntarily doing something about it, unlike some other manufacturers who are very reluctant to ever admit any component faults until forced to - flaming Zafiras anyone?

This sort of thing happens all the time with new cars. Usually it's something fairly minor, like a software update, or a swapping of one type of bolt for another - something that can be done within the time allocated for the service, and it's actually not unusual for them to happen and the owner not to know anything about it, unless they scour the paperwork.

As AlasdairMac says, it's correct that these things should be getting picked up and dealt with voluntarily. As this is a bigger than usual job, I'd hope they are going to provide replacement transport for the two days?

Hi - I had a strange experience regarding this recall. I have a Dacia Logan Prime on order and it was due to be delivered to me on 25 November. To date I still haven't received it - due to this recall! When I ask the dealership as to the nature of the recall they keep telling me its nothing to worry about its a minor "enhancement" and I will get the car ASAP. I'm not particularly happy with the time delay in sorting it and I cant find anything official online about a recall. Apparently the car had to go back to the factory which sounds even more peculiar. Any updates from others regarding the "unofficial recall" on this would be appreciated.
