Use a standard length spanner, unless you are built like Arnie or naturally heavy handed you won't overtighten it.
Don't be misled by the effort needed to remove it, they only need 'nipping' up.

 

Thanks John yup not built like Arnie unfortunately as much as I would like to be 😂. At least I know now it’s been a while since doing an oil change and that was on a 40 year old van. And not a modern car. Hopefully the duster is just as easy to work on

 

There'll be a Youtube video showing the info' you want (or something very similar) have a search. If you've got the nasty plastic filter housing the torque will be written on on it, The sump plug needs to be sufficiently tight to crush the new hollow copper washer.

 

I think it is the plastic housing which is a first for me. All my cars have been the screw on ones. I’ll let you know what I think about it

 

20 Nm for my 1.5 dCi Duster. The sump is an aluminum casting & not steel.

 

Thanks all for the advice. One more thing dose anyone have a link to the sump plug tool I’ll need? It looks like a square socket. I have my filter and sump plug washer ready to go so this weekend I’ll be doing it.

Sump plug sets from any motor factor or online retailer this set is from the well known high st motor store Laser Drain Plug Key Set | Halfords UK this is a bit expensive or this I've seen them for about £10 or this Halfords Square Drain Plug Key 8mm 3/8" | Halfords UK. I have a bit of 8mm( i think) square bar from an old door handle you can file a bolt to the correct size to fit inside the sump plug fairly easily.
