Software updates

Took my 2019 Dacia Duster for a service yesterday at a Renault dealership. Paid £150 to get faults diagnosed, power steering light keeps coming on and radio fails to work.
Called at 4.30pm to be told that both issues can be fixed with software updates and was told that it would cost me £230 to fix them. Took the car home and then called "customer services" line, initially the handler logged the call but once he called the dealership I was told that there was no goodwill available and that ALL software updates are down to the customer.

Has anyone else had similar issues and got them resolved or has anyone got any recommendations as to where to go to get these issues fixed at a cheaper price ?
I am based just north of London
TIA

Hi Ukmark,
I suspect that the software updates should have been done during the warranty period and probably the services may not done carried out by a Dacia garage hence the "goodwill " is not available because of this reason. If all the services had been done during the 36 months by period by a Dacia garage and the softwear was available during this time but not downloaded it, Dacia would have carried it out possibly free of charge for a error on the part of the organisation.

I agree that you are entitled to paperwork to show what work has been done which shows the fault that needs correcting . I suspect that you have no alternative but to let them carry on with the update if the total cost is only £230. But If you have to pay £ 150 plus £230 that would be exhortant. If You have to pay £150 plus then search for another garage to do the work It may be difficult because some software package can be exclusive to Renault/ Dacia and sometime carry a fee for downloading .

Sorry that doesn't answer your question but it might explain why no good will.

Hi ,

I suspect that you are protected by trading standards consumer law for the service that you have paid £150. Not a satisfactory situation .

Look for another Dacia /Renault Independent garage. But first be polite , phone the garage that you paid the money ask to speak to the customer service manager him them for a printout of the diagnostic record that shows the fault. You have not got satisfactory service , you are protected by Law IE supply of goods and services . Ask him to clarify is the charge for the work completion £150 plus £230 or £230 total

You have a justifiable claim for a small claims court action and a complaint to Dacia for an unsatisfacty service.

Once you receive a copy of the diagnostic report you will be in a position to try another garage for an estimate either Renault or independent though I suspect that it will be not much less £230 if you have to lose £150 and find and pay another garage to download an exclusive Renault program.

Potentially true. If the £150 was to perform a service and carry out the diagnostic, maybe it isn't so bad after all.

If the software update requires the car to be on a ramp for three hours, tying up their only diagnostic tech with multiple modules having to go through a complete re-initialisation process with the added risk that the first time it runs it fails and has to be started from scratch, then £230 sounds significantly less crook-like.
