Do you have a Rusty Duster?

When the issue of rust surfaced on the forum regarding white Dusters, I checked mine over and found what I thought was rust on the front wing edges under the bonnet. It wiped off easily and on inspection seemed to be a wax substance. Nothing has re-appeared, so I assume it was probably residue of a coating that the car may have had for transportation. Can anyone confirm that they are coated like they used to be years ago. We used to have to wash the protective coating off with a steam cleaner before the pdi inspection many years ago.

I have an Access duster which is due its first service soon, so I had a good look over it for signs of rust. There appears to be early signs of rust on the edges of the wings under the bonnet also where the chassis number is stamped on the body in the offside under the bonnet. Signs also on the metal edge that holds the seal over the door apertures both sides. The dealer has taken photos to send to Dacia to request rectification. I hope to get a positive reaction when it goes in for the service early next month.

Rusty Duster pics as requested.

I did say the rust is in an early stage but this has only appeared in the last month or so. I think some of the rust maybe from the wire in the various rubber seals. I've not pulled anything apart as i don't want them saying it's any of my doing. I'm happy to give the dealer a chance to rectify the rust but i will be keeping an eagle eye for any rust returning. Apart from this, I am very pleased with the car. As i said I hope to know more when the car goes in for it's 1st service next month.

I have just been informed by the dealer that the warranty claim for rust has been accepted by Dacia. The duster goes in for four days on 29/04/2013 with a courtesy car provided. The work involved is repair of multiple rust spots within the engine bay area and also on the gutters over the doors. It was encouraging that the rust problem was also reported by the technician at the 1st service. The warranty service by the dealer has been very good so far. All I hope is the repairs are sound and the rust does not return. Rest assured I will be checking regularly when the car comes back.

My Duster has gone in today for work on rust problems that were notified to the dealer before the 1st service (ie during the 1st 12 months). If the rust returns before the paint warranty ends, is it possible legally to reject the car as unfit for purpose?

The car is back after four days for rust / paint repairs. All the areas noted have been painted. Now i will be keeping an eagle eye out for any rust anywhere on the car. I was told by the dealer that if any rust appears, the warranty is there to rectify it and to bring it in as soon as. I know this does not alter the fact that the car could show rust after the paint warranty and perforation warranty expire but for the time being I have given the dealer the chance to rectify. The dealer has lived up to my expectations supplying a hire car and keeping me informed all along. Satisfied for the present, only time will tell!

Maybe Dacia will offer an annual service and respray deal!

I'm glad your car has been repaired dorestboy, but it misses the point that it shouldn't have been rusty in the first place. :(
Believe me I didn't miss the point at all. I am not happy that rust was found on my vehicle but the dealer has done what I expected and tried to rectify it. I for one will be on any campaign that may be presented to Dacia in the future. My car is past the one year old mark and realistically I doubt they would let me reject it. Best I could hope for, would be a buy back price if it come to it, and that would only be if Dacia admitted a wide spread rust problem on dusters.

the reason behind thin wings panels are the facts that the car needs crumple zones (i posted video with renault clio which has plastic wings)

another is the overall weight of the car that affects many issues light fuel consuption tax impact etc....so on so on

another is for pedestrian impact zones

imho the problem with these batches of dusters is the paint process on them and the poor qc in india
Having read all the rust problems of forum members and suffered myself I think there is little doubt that it lies in the Indian paint process. Lets hope at least that Dacia are aware and looking into the problem. It cost them money for my duster as customer services okayed 4 days paint repair and 4 days hire car. Love the car but wasn't expecting rust in under a year and probably more to come. I probably won't keep it when the 3 year warranty expires, which is a shame as i did plan to keep it for around 5 years.

I see now that it appears the Duster rust problems have been admitted by Dacia on a limited amount of vehicles. If new vehicles have rust on them in the showroom, surely ALL dusters that have been sold need inspection regardless of age. Where do owners who have had their reported rust repainted stand in relation to this. Mine is an april 13 registration and the repaint was only on areas I stated to the dealer. Not being a paint inspection technician, I am worried that more is lurking in areas I haven't seen. Will we find out which V.I.N numbers are affected if it is a limited number of cars that they think have the problem?

As you have already had an issue I would image you'd be on top of the list. Personally if it was me I'd be phoning dacia CS to 100% guarantee you're on the list.

Call them on 03443351111 instead of 08443351111 as the 03 number is cheaper to call!

Hi Geraint,

Thanks are certainly due to you for putting pressure on Dacia. I'll take your advice with the number, their phone will be hot tomorrow with duster owners, me included.

I had been wondering that myself . As this is not an official recall , as i understand it , they do not have official access to the national database in Swansea , so is it just the owners that they have on their records , not the ones which have been sold to new owners .
If you have a Duster and your on this forum don't wait to be contacted. Do like me and telephone them as soon as possible!

I have one that has had paintwork carried out because of rust but wanted to know which VIN numbers are affected. They couldn't tell me which they are (suspect most) but said that they will contact me in 2-3 weeks when more information should be available. I was given a case ref number and details of the car and dealer taken.

About 10000 ie all of them as no colour seems to be free of "paintwork protection" issues, still 2000 a month.
Why won't Dacia just publish which VIN numbers are affected instead of keeping us in the dark. For those affected or not , you may have to wait a long while to be told your car needs re-calling for inspection or it may not happen at all. Crap management decision i would say. Loseing faith in the brand!

I spoke to a CS manager last week. No joy on the question of VIN numbers but as my car has already had some rust/paintwork repair , I was told it would be called in probably in September / October. Information was that probably 10,000 cars may be affected. No final desision on the type of fix, but probably more than one type which will be car specific according to the whereabouts of the rust found.

Make of that what you will!

Had mine 13 months and have not been contacted by anybody about rust
Mine went in for rust warranty repairs in April and I subsequently contacted CS in July to find out if and when they were going to inspect it. I was told probably by the end of September.

Although they gave me my previous case reference number for the repair and a new one on my enquiry----------- NOTHING HAS BEEN HEARD SINCE! Grrrrrrrrrrr.

An email arrived this morning requesting I contact Dacia to make a reservation for inspection and completion of any rust repair if needed. They will collect the car and leave a courtesy car, extend the paint and corrosion warranty by one year. It certainly took them some time to make contact but at last some progress.I will book the appointment later today. Anyone else had contact?
